Golden Cuban Basslet Platinum White

Gramma dejongi var - If you thought the natural color form of the Golden Cuban Basslet was rare, this fish is rare squared. The platinum white color form of the Golden Cuban Basslet spontaneously appeared in our captive bred population and has become the pinnacle of rare basslets.

But what makes the species so rare to begin with? What does this beautiful fish have in common with Cuban cigars? Because of the Cuban trade embargo, wild collected Gramma dejongi aren't sold within the US, but there is a loophole - captive bred offspring are certainly legal. Only recently discovered in 2010, this species is similar in behavior to its close cousin, the undisputedly awesome reef tank fish, the Royal Gramma Basslet. Incredibly hardy, easy to keep, outgoing, and a veritably peaceful, reef safe citizen that can fit in nearly any size aquarium, the Gramma dejongi is as close to perfection as an aquarium fish can be. 

Distinguished marine biologist and ornamental fish breeder Todd Gardner and his team produce these in the Biota North Carolina lab. This species produces a small number of offspring, so they are still quite rare despite being captive bred. Some reefers prefer the rare natural color form of the Golden Cuban Basslet with the purple and golden yellow complementary colors, or you may want to collect both colors!

This species does well in small to large tanks, but the ideal tank size is 30+ gallons. They can be kept singly or in small groups if added at the same time. They're feeding on C1, PE pellet, and Hikari Mysis Shrimp. We recommend a varied diet of frozen meaty foods and Easy Reefs DKI pellets and Masstick. We recommend introducing new fish with an acclimation box.
